In collaboration with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) the COVID-19 outbreak that was declared on Collingwood General & Marine Hospital's (CGMH) Surgical Unit on October 8th has now been declared over.
During this timeframe contact tracing for patients and employees was conducted, impacted patients were isolated and enhanced measures were put in place, such as increased cleaning of high touch surfaces on the Units.
The Medial Unit remains in outbreak status and no visitors are permitted on this unit at this time, apart from exceptional circumstances, however admissions continue as the Unit has been divided into COVID+ and COVID negative zones.
Diligent mask wearing while in the hospital is essential for all visitors, in order to protect our most vulnerable patients. Hospital issued masks must cover the visitors mouth and nose, and must remain on for the entire visit. Visitors are not permitted to eat or drink while visiting with any patient, including floors that are not currently on outbreak. Visitors that are not adhering to the hospital's masking guidelines, will be asked to leave.
"CGMH continues to see increasing rates of COVID-19 infections which is resulting in increased pressure on our bed capacity and higher wait times in our Emergency Department," says Mike Lacroix, CGMH President and CEO. "When visiting the hospital, we are asking for the public's assistance in following our masking guidelines to help keep our patients and CGMH team safe."
