Rehabilitation Services - Outpatient - North Simcoe Muskoka

Hospital and community physiotherapy clinics provide physiotherapy services to individuals who are over the age of 65, under the age of 19, or have been a recent inpatient at a hospital and require physiotherapy for the condition, illness, or injury which resulted in hospitalization. A referral from a physician or nurse practitioner is required in order to be eligible for publicly funded physiotherapy.

Physiotherapy involves the assessment of neuromuscular, musculoskeletal or cardio respiratory systems and the diagnosis and treatment of physical dysfunction, injury or pain.

How are exercise classes different from physiotherapy?

High-quality physiotherapy helps seniors recover better from illness, surgery or injury, while falls prevention and regular exercise helps seniors stay active, healthy, and independent.

Seniors exercise classes focus on improving functional performance through strength and balance to prevent frailty, injury and falls. Classes may be led by fitness instructors, trained peer facilitators or support workers. For more information on exercise classes in your community call the VON at 705-737-5044 extension 248.

For more information on recent changes to the publicly-funded physiotherapy model that was effective as of August 22, 2013 follow this link.
