The City of Barrie Recreation Guide is distributed twice a year through the Barrie Examiner: Spring/Summer mid February, Fall/Winter late August For information about water quality, advisories or closures at City of Barrie beaches, contact the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit at 705-721-7520 or online at www.simcoemuskokahealth.org The City of Barrie partners with the Canadian Red Cross for the PFD Loan Service. This service allows visitors to borrow PFDs on a one day loan while at Centennial Beach. Weather permitting, PFDs are available 7 days a week through the Lifeguard Office from 11:30 am-5:30 pm. Users will be required to sign a waiver and are responsible for returning the PFD in an undamaged state. A $10 refundable deposit is required.

Service Description: Organizes and runs recreational programs for the City of Barrie, including general interest, fitness and aquatic programs for all ages, as well as summer and school break day camps for children and programs on school professional activity days and holidays

  • School Break Planners have detailed information on school break camps, activities and programs
  • Guides list City of Barrie events, community information and available courses/classes for children, adults and seniors at various times throughout the year

RecACCESS, a fee assistance program provides support to low-income families and individuals in Barrie, by providing qualifying participants with credits which can be applied to the registration fee for qualifying programs and activities * interested participants must complete an application form and provide documents (as indicated on the form) related to financial and family situation * application form and more details available at www.barrie.ca/Living/RecreationPrograms/Pages/RecACCESS.aspx
  • Weather permitting, from July 1st through to mid August, Centennial Beach and Johnson's Beach has fully qualified lifeguards on duty 7 days a week from 11:30 am to 5:30 pm * all other beaches in Barrie are unsupervised
